State Summary:
Vermont recommends red Exit signs but is also subject to the decision of the fire marshal. NFPA 101 Life Safety code has been used in Vermont since 1972, and has been the primary governing code in the state ever since. Like other New England states, Vermont took part in a movement to create better and more visible egress routes, particularly in places of assembly.
