Carefree® Rechargeable Batteries
Long-lasting and Maintenance-free
EaglePicher’s Carefree™ rechargeable batteries are designed to provide extended operation and maintenance-free service, making them well-suited for use in a variety of commercial applications. EaglePicher has more than 40 years of experience in building and distributing high quality Sealed Lead Acid batteries, which require no maintenance and are ideal for applications. The batteries are configurable in a broad range of package sizes to accommodate diverse requirements. Carefree’s Deep Cycle Series is designed for applications in which extended battery cycle life is required, including discharges up to 100%.
Determining Battery Capacity
All valve regulated, lead-acid (VRLA) battery capacities are sized at the 20 hour rate at 25o C. to determine which battery best fits your application, take your discharge requirement, in amperes, and multiply by the length of time required. This gives you the capacity needed for your application. Divide the result by factor shown on the chart below. This determines battery capacity size at the 20 hour rate.
Example: 4.2 amperes x 5 hours = = 24.7; therefore, the 25AH battery is the best suited for your application.
The chart illustrates single cell voltage, so it is necessary to multiply the number of cells (2 volts per cell) needed to determine end voltage. End voltages expressed above are considered 100% depth of discharge. If a cell is discharged below the recommended end voltages at the rates shown, damage can result. Always select the next larger size when you fall between standard sizes.
Charging
To obtain the maximum life from any VRLA battery, voltage-controlled charging is required. In general, the conditions of the usage fall into two basic classifications: CYCLIC and FLOAT applications. Each classification requires different voltage control.
Float Applications
A battery in float service is being subjected to continuous charging and is called upon to deliver power at infrequent intervals or in case of a power outage.
